At this point in gaming I think we should be allowed to use our preferred controls no matter the platform. I hope they will expand keyboard and mouse control to console and truly support it. The controller is absolutely viable and one of the better translations in terms of control that I have played in recent memory. Trying to stab a crawling enemy was the biggest distinction/demonstration IMO of the difference in precision control. I felt my movements were more intentional, where as on the controller it feels loose. The blocking, swinging, and combat all around feels so much smoother. These days with a new baby, console has been the predominant gaming I do because it is just easier to pick up and put down.
I attempted to plug M+K into the PS4 but I couldn't get it to work. It took some time getting it down but after a while I was able to hold my own in most matches and have had more than a few good 1v1's. Once you get the hang of it, turning into your swings works well and managing different strikes and combos is fairly easy. That being said, playing with the controller works pretty damn well.
You can be an archer too if you want, but that’s always felt like a second-thought that.

Let me start out by saying I personally prefer M+K for FPS games which this is. A new Chivalry 2 hotfix update is live on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X with minimal changes, but one important change for controller players. This is still a game about brutally competitive PvP combat that hinges on quick reflexes and precise strikes.

Its only real challenges are ensuring content is kept flowing and its Epic store exclusivity. Chivalry 2 is a good entry into the melee-focused multiplayer scene.
